IN EL CHALTEN
El Chaltén, located in the province of Santa Cruz, Argentina, is known as the “National Capital of Trekking”. This small town, located in the heart of Patagonia, is the ideal starting point to venture into some of the most spectacular trekking routes in the world.

Day Hikes and trekkings
Most of the day hikes are very well marked in El Chalten. Nonetheless, we recommend mountain guides to learn about those fantastic formations, flora and fauna and relax. Distances and elevation gains are generally important but the reward is worth the challenge!

- Laguna de los Tres: One of the most popular and difficult routes in El Chaltén. You can reach the base of Mount Fitz Roy. The
- Laguna Torre: The lagoon can be reached from the end of Calle Los Charitos.
- Mirador Maestri: You can reach Laguna Torre and Cerro Torre.
- Laguna de los Tres and Laguna Torre Circuit: A 42.7 km route linking the two most popular spots in El Chaltén.
- Trail to Piedra del Fraile: An easy trail along the Eléctrico River.
- Valle Eléctrico: You can tour the Valle Eléctrico and its lakes: Eléctrico, Pollone and Marconi.
- Huemul Circuit: A 4-days hike.
Other treks from El Chaltén are: Loma del Pliegue Tumbado, Laguna Sucia, El Chaltén – Laguna Capri – Sendero Madre e Hija – Mirador Cerro Torre, Rio Blanco – Lago de Los Tres.
Some of the campsites in El Chaltén are: Poincenot campground, Laguna Capri, Padre D’Agostini, Laguna Toro.

CAN I DO IT in low season in
EL CHALTEN ?
Southern autumn (April to May) and Southern spring (September to November): We highly recommend Ushuaia mid-April. The mountains are dressed in red, and with the snow-capped peaks Ushuaia offers spectacular panoramas. These seasons offer a cooler and more variable climate, with average temperatures ranging between 0°C and 10°C. The days are shorter, but there is still enough light to enjoy nature. The trails are usually less crowded and the prices are lower.

Advantages: Less crowded, lower prices. Beautiful colors!
Disadvantages: Cooler and more variable weather, shorter days, some trails may be closed due to snow or mud.
What activities to do in the southern winter in EL CHALTEN?
Southern winter (June to October): The whole region experiences a cold, snowy climate, with average temperatures ranging between -5°C and 0°C. The days are short and the nights are long. If you like winter sports, such as skiing and snowboarding, this is the best time to visit Patagonia .

Backcountry ski is your best option in winter!
If you are a backcountryskier , Patagonia and El Chalten is a «place to ski». With amazing views on Fitz Roy Massif, all kind of terrains are available: easy, challenging and complex.
Backcountry skiing in El Chaltén, Patagonia, Argentina, may involves climbing ( equipment might be needed, your guide can provide you what is needed) and skiing moderate mountains with views of Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre, and the Southern Ice Field. Aproach walking is generally 45 minutes before you start the uphill with your skins on!
