IN BARILOCHE
San Carlos de Bariloche (commonly called Bariloche) is a city in the Patagonia region of Argentina. It borders Nahuel Huapi, a large glacial lake surrounded by the Andes Mountains. Bariloche is known for its Swiss Alpine-style architecture and its chocolate, which is sold in stores on Mitre Street, the main avenue. It is also a popular base for hiking and skiing in the nearby mountains, and for exploring the surrounding Lake District.

Bariloche is the pioneer city in mountain activities in Argentina. The first National Park in Argentina (and second in the world), Nahuel Huapi National Park, was created there. Its refuges are historics and allow amazing multidays hikes.

CAN I HIKE in low season in
BARILOCHE ?
Southern autumn (April to May) and Southern spring (September to November): We highly recommend Bariloche mid-April. . These seasons offer a cooler and more variable climate, with average temperatures ranging between 10°C and 20°C. The days are shorter, but there is still enough light to enjoy nature. The trails are usually less crowded and the prices are lower.

Advantages: Less crowded, lower prices. Beautiful colors!
Disadvantages: Cooler and more variable weather, shorter days, some trails may be closed due to snow or mud.
CAN I SKI in the southern winter in BARILOCHE ?
Southern winter (June to September): The whole region experiences a cold, snowy climate, with average temperatures ranging between -3°C and 7°C. The days are short and the nights are long. If you like winter sports, such as skiing and snowboarding, this is the best time to visit Patagonia .

Backcountry ski is your best option in winter!
If you are a backcountryskier , Patagonia and Bariloche is a «place to ski». With amazing views on Nahuel Huapi Lake and mountains, all kind of terrains are available: easy, challenging and complex. The environment in FREY with its sharps picks is unic.
Where to go backcountry skiing: Cerro Catedral, Baguales Mountain Reserve, Refugio Frey to Refugio S. Martin at Lake Jakob.
