Monte Susana Trekking
Monte Susana Trekking is a delightful hike through the Fuegian forest and beyond the treeline, where injust half a day you will be rewarded with incredible panoramas of the city of Ushuaia, the surrounding mountains, the Beagle Channel, and the National Park. Located really close to Tierra del Fuego National Park this mountain stands out for its mystique and history, strongly linked to the time of the Presidio in Ushuaia. It is also a very characteristic point of the city and frequented by locals.
But let us tell you that we still are not sure about who Susana was: the wife of a prison guard, a young woman who disappeared in the surroundings… Nonetheless the pioneer of Ushuaia use to say that you had to look at Susana Mountain if you wanted to know about the weather within a few hours…
Monte Susana Trekking is remarkable for its breathtaking panoramas. It is a very pleasant hike through the forest and out of the vegetation limit.
We are amazed by its unique views: the Beagle Channel, the Hoste and Navarino Islands to the south, the Martial range to the north, the Tierra del Fuego National Park to the west. Halfway up, at a first viewpoint, we enjoy an unmissable panorama of Ushuaia Bay surrounded by mountains. To reach the top, we have to continue 45 minutes more outside the vegetation limit and go through the forest again. We go down the other side of the mountain, advancing towards the National Park, enjoying incredible views of the Darwin Range and descending north face to enjoy the sun rays.
