Mountain Ascent in Ushuaia MOUNT OLIVIA
Mount Olivia stands is one of Ushuaia’s most iconic mountains, rising prominently among its peers. This mountain ascent in Ushuaia is a must do for all traveling climber! As you ascend its slopes, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic vistas that encompass the Beagle Channel, the city of Ushuaia, and the awe-inspiring expanse of the Fuegian mountain range.
We leave at dawn to take advantage of the daylight hours. It is recommended to make this ascent in spring or winter. The approach lasts 4 hours. An the climbing part in between 1h30 to 3 hours. We start in a very steep rocky area to start a part with stepped Andean vegetation that will take us to a rock and ice or hard snow chute. This terrain is usually mixed. The slope varies between 45 and 60 degree.

At the highest part we find ourselves in a snow couloir that takes us to the col de conejito where we begin to climb. We do 2 or 3 pitches depending on the conditions.

Mount Olivia’s Tour Details
For all mountaineering and alpinism activities, the ascent route is determined based on weather conditions, terrain, client’s physical condition, and other factors that may change with the environment. For this purpose, a meeting is held with clients a few days before the activity to determine this factor and, consequently, the equipment to be used.

- Distance: 18-22 km round trip
- Elevation gain: 1300 meters
- Requirements: Good physical condition, intermediate trekking experience

- Elevation gain: 1500 meters
- Requirements: Very good physical condition, advanced mountain trekking experience
Both options:
- Offer stunning panoramic views of Ushuaia and the Andes mountain range.
- Traverse subantarctic forests, peat bogs, and rocky terrain.
- Require proper physical preparation and previous trekking experience.
- Hiring an experienced guide is recommended, especially for Option 2.
- A permit is required to access the Monte Olivia Protected Natural Area.

- Wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather and terrain.
